BURNING CANDLE LEFT UNATTENDED, ONE DEAD

MANILA, Philippines — A mother of three was declared dead on arrival in La Loma Hospital, due to a fire incident caused by a candle left unattended this Friday morning.

Deputy Fire Marshall Jose Waling of the Bureau of Fire Protection declared alert level Task Force Bravo after extinguishing the fire that took 4 hours and 20 minutes. The fire started in a house in Love Road, Delta Compound, where the father of the family left a candle burning due to no electricity because of a power shortage. He left his three children and his wife inside the house. Their neighbor called the authorities after smelling smoke. At 1:25 AM the fire fighters arrived. 3 men and 4 women sustained minor injuries, while 2 fire fighters were rushed to the nearby hospital due to suffocation. The three children are in critical condition with first to second degree burns. The mother suffered a third degree burn but was declared dead on arrival in the hospital.

70 families were affected by the incident and P5,000,000 was the estimated damage to property.
